OnePlus 8 Pro vs Asus ROG Phone 3: Which is Better?

The Asus Rog 3 and the OnePlus 8 Pro are two of the most popular phones in the market. However, it remains a subjective debate on which of the two products are superior. So today, let us look at which device is the winner, the futuristic, gamer-friendly Asus Rog 3, or the simple, yet grandiose OnePlus 8 Pro.

The Asus Rog 3 has a very sleek, cyberpunk aesthetic to its appearance. There are multiple color schemes for the phone. The recurring color being black with different palettes which alter between a range of colors. The phone has a Gorilla Glass 6 front, and a Gorilla Glass 3 back with an aluminum frame coating it. Considerably large, it weighs in at about 240 grams and has a dimension of 171 x 78 x 9.9 mm.
On the other hand, the OnePlus 8 Pro weighs almost twenty percent less than the weight of the Asus Rog 3 at around 199 grams. The body is composed with an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass on both the front and back. The dimension of the device is at 165.3 x 74.4 x 8.5 mm. There are different colors for the phone such as Ultramarine Blue and Onyx Black, both of which have a matte finish.

For the Asus Rog 3, the display is a quality AMOLED with a 1 billion color range. It operates at 144 Hertz and has the HDR10+ feature, making the display type a notably decent one. The display size is 6.59 inches, and has a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels in a 19.5:9 ratio. A Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protects the display.
As for the OnePlus 8 Pro that we are comparing it with, it has a Fluid AMOLED, with a lesser Frequency range at 120 Hertz. It also shares the HDR10+ feature, and has a larger 6.78 display size. The Rog 3 has a 64 MP camera, which functions under wide conditions, 13 MP in ultra wide, and a simple 5 MP in macro mode. Ordinary features such as LED flash, HDR, and panorama are present. It can record videos at 8K at 30 frames per second, and 4K at 120 frames per second, with variations of lower resolutions. The selfie camera is a standard 24 MP, and records videos at 1080p at 30 frames per second.
In contrast, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a camera with a 48 MP camera at wide, 8 MP at telephoto, 48 MP at ultra wide and 5 MP at color filter camera modes. Dual-LED flash, HDR and panorama are present, with video record abilities going as high as 8K at both 30 and 60 frames per second. Variations are available at lower radiation. The selfie camera is a 16 MP, which has an Auto-HDR feature. 1080p video recording is possible at 30 frames per second.

We have seen the Rog 3 have a lot of enthusiasm in its speakers. The speakers are engineered in such a way that they provide excellent sound all over. The equalization is done very well which garnered a lot of attraction from the customers. The DTS: X stereo speakers are wonderful in action.
OnePlus 8 Pro however is not too special in the sound department. It has a very overall generic feel in terms of its playability of music.

Now, for the most important question at hand for a lot of you. The performance is a crucial factor for a lot of customers.
For processors, Asus Rog 3 contains a Snapdragon 865 Plus, which is fairly high in quality and ranked high in the market. The OnePlus 8 Pro has a slightly lower version of the same processor.
This renders the performance of the OnePlus 8 Pro to be below that of Rog 3. It should also be noted that the Asus Rog 3 is designed particularly game playing for a lot of the target customers of the product. Asus Rog 3 has been said to be able to run with little or no lag even after hours of playing video games.
OnePlus 8 Pro is definitely no joke; it is an excellent phone with some amazing features and of great quality. Nevertheless, the Rog 3 is probably going to take the crown in terms of performance, just because of the demography it was designed for – gaming. The two devices have the same GPU, the Adreno 650.

Both the devices run Android by default, and do it quite well at that. The Asus Rog 3 has the added bonus of the ROG UI, which is unique to devices under the Rog series. While Rog 3 is stuck with Android 10, OnePlus 8 Pro comes with Android 10 and is upgradable to Android 11 or Oxygen OS 11.
In terms of software, the biggest difference will be noted once again in the performance. While the OnePlus 8 Pro may show some wear after long term usage, the Rog 3 is going to prove to be more durable. Simply because of the way it was designed for a particular audience.

In terms of batteries, the Rog 3 comes packed with a non-removable 6000 mAh Li-Pro. The OnePlus 8 Pro comes packed with a 4500 mAh, also non-removable. Thus the Rog 3 has a superior battery life by manufacture. Both phones support fast charging, but the Rog 3 wins in terms of charging time. The OnePlus 8 however, does support wireless charging, a feature that the Rog 3 does not share with it.
CONCLUSION
Overall, the two phones are great in terms of quality, features and configurations. Ultimately, it is going to be a matter of preference, but there are some very important things to consider. If you are someone who is a mobile gamer, who will use their phone for extended periods of time for playing some PUBG or Fortnite, or whatever game you love, this decision should not be too hard to make.
The Rog 3, as mentioned before, is specifically designed for gaming. An extended battery life and a performance scale to back it up, this is the phone that you want to go for as a gamer. It should also be noted that the Rog 3 has a superior sound system by a long margin in comparison.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is a crowd-pleaser too, because of its less technically focused and more simple approach. If you are not into gaming, and do not care about performance and simply wish to have a cell phone that has state-of-the-art quality, the OnePlus 8 Pro would not be a bad choice for you either.
