DESIGN & BUILD

If you give an apparent look to both, you will find out that both of them are identical twins in terms of basic build. This is because of the presence of plastic build with silver and greyish themes appearing everywhere. The speaker combo in both consists of a soundbar pairing up with its wireless subwoofer to complete the whole essence.

So, upon deeply going into the whole build of both. You will find out that in YAS-209, things have gotten a bit over the edge with the elevated thickness and greyish design coming in the middle compared to the minimal YAS-207.

The length of 209 has increased a bit marking 2.4″ compared to the 2.3″ present in 207. The width remains of the same 36.4″ size, but the depth has shown a wide increase marking up 4.0″ within 209 as compared to the earlier existing 3.8″ in 207.

We notice their other partner, i-e The subwoofer, repeating the same pattern of an increment within the 209 models. Here a major change occurs within the height of 209’s subwoofer which has considerably increased up to 7.5″ compared to the 7.1″ of 207. One good thing about both of the speakers is their portability.

We get to find an indicator at the rear of both of the subwoofers belonging to each parent. This consists of an LED mechanism which glows during the playtime. Other than that, we are also provided with a standby indicator, depicting the playing status of the subwoofer.

The pairing button offered at their rear side is a major feature existing in both the models. The bar on the other hand consists of the HDMI, AC and analogue input jack to connect with your television or desktop.

FEATURES

The best attribute of both of these devices is the Bluetooth compatibility allowing you to hear all your favourites with this simple feature. 209, however, takes the lead among two providing the Wi-fi compatibility in addition to the Bluetooth.

Both of them consist of remote control which ensures their working. Although, you can also convert your smartphone into a remote control through their respective apps available in both the iOS and Android versions. Yamaha Home Theater control is the soul app of 207 providing limited support as a remote control.

However, the Yamaha Sound Bar Controller App functioning in 209 provides complete remote control support allowing you to take charge of all the significant features of both the bar and subwoofer. It also allows you to play all your downloaded files on the soundbar which lacks in 207. The 209’s subwoofer and soundbar both go into standby when not in use compared to the Auto-off feature available in 207.

SOUND QUALITY

207 has still maintained its position in terms of giving off the maximum level of volume to the sound. This gets expressed within its 95.2dB SPL which conveniently beats the 82.6fb SPL. Though the sound enhancement features are more prominent within 209. Part of that comes from the improved bass reflex port.

Both of the siblings have complete control over the dialogue enhancement feature, ensuring you full clarity. Although, 209 enhances this further by providing the EQ adjustment, balancing the frequencies of variable sounds. The presence of virtual surround features in both brings them together ensuring the natural effect.

Both these speakers are fully compatible with Dolby Digital Sounds and the other variant DTS. We get to find two different situations here. If you are more into electronics or jazz, 209 is going to support you with the help of its brilliant 34.6kHz low-frequency extension rate.

It is efficient enough to give you a much deeper sound than the rival 207 where the extension sets itself at the mediocre 42.4Hz range. However, for sounds bearing a loud impact, with extremely fast bass, 207 is still the ideal one because of its 19.9kHz high-frequency extension rate compared to the 19.1kHz of 209.

BATTERY LIFE

Since the soundbar in both of the designs are powered by AC and it’s the subwoofer which becomes wireless, so we don’t get any apparent battery life issues over here. The chief reason behind this is the presence of an inbuilt Lithium battery.

This battery within the remote control, which controls the subwoofer’s performance runs efficiently throughout. It serves for a period as long as a year on an average in both.

PRICE COMPARISON

Yamaha YAS-209 is a bit more expensive than its counterpart 207. The chief reason behind this is the enhanced sound quality and the fascinating design focusing on the preciseness. Although, both of them are mediocre priced buddies, yet a difference of almost fifty to sixty bucks is there.

FINAL VERDICT

Yamaha YAS-209 is the best one out of them both. The chief reason behind this is the presence of much deeper sound frequency level enabling you to hear the tiniest of the sound within a controlled volume range.

Besides, its multi-service compatibility is also an admirable feature making it the peculiar one. However, if you are into music that could provide more bass, go for Yamaha YAS-207 because of its impressive coverage of loud frequencies.
