Unlike phones, you don’t have tons of options to consider when it comes to tablets. The top players, however, remain the same, and they have successfully upgraded the standard of their products over the years. Yes, we’re talking about the two giants in the business, Samsung and Apple. The tablets these giants manufacture are miles apart when it comes to both hardware and software; however, the performance scores don’t keep them apart much.

The two latest devices to compare in this category are the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and the Apple iPad Pro (11-inch). Depending on your usage and previous likings, you can choose to buy either one. However, if you’re stuck between the two, or want a general overview of both the devices, give this article a thorough read to avoid half-stepping.

When it comes to design, both these devices are sleek looking, and you can’t tell them apart except by looking at the logos. Both the devices have a glass front, and the back is made out of solid aluminum.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 comes with an S-pen which can be attached at the back of the device while the Apple iPad Pro (11-inch) comes with an Apple-Pencil which can be attached to its side.

You can also turn these two beasts into a workstation by connecting a keyboard, and the rounded corners will even make them look like a laptop.

Another common feature between the two is the Type-C port at the bottom. The Apple iPad Pro weighs around 471 grams, which makes it heavier than its contender, which weighs around 420 grams. However, both give you a premium feel upon holding, and the design is a solid 10/10 on both.

It’s been well known that the main difference between the devices of Apple and Samsung has been about the Display. Although the masses have well received the Super AMOLED display that Samsung uses, however, Apple is still adamant in using the good old IPS technology.

Having said that, the Samsung Galaxy tab S6 offers a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen while the Apple iPad Pro has a slightly more prominent 11-inch display.

In case the nitty-gritties about the display matter to you, the Samsung Tab has 82.5% screen to body ratio, and the PPI (pixel per inch) density is around 287. On the other hand, Apple doesn’t come slow and has an 82.9% screen to body ratio while the PPI are 265.

Despite being made from different technologies, the display on both these devices is remarkable, and the differences shouldn’t matter that much because there are a lot of other factors to fret over.

Although cameras in tablets don’t matter as much as in phones, however, you can’t ignore this feature as well. Just like phones, the dual-camera setup is now common in tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 offers two cameras at the back that are aligned vertically; the main one is of 13-mp while the second (ultra-wide) one is of 5-mp. This combination of two cameras on the back of the Galaxy Tab can record in 4K with 30 fps.

Contrary to that, the Apple iPad Pro has a dual-camera setup on the back as well, but it can shoot in 4K with 60 fps max. The ultra-wide lens is also of 10mp, and there’s an additional TOF LIDAR scanner on the back as well to detect objects from a distance accurately. The primary camera on the Apple iPad is of 12-mp, but overall, Apple is offering a complete package than what Samsung is offering in its premium tablet.

Another common factor in both devices is the number of speakers, which happens to be four. Both Samsung and Apple have been known for their extra-clear and loud speakers, and these tablets offer nothing but premium quality sound even at high volumes.

When it comes to hardware, both the devices are loaded with extraordinary processors. The Apple iPad Pro (11-inch) has the octa-core Apple A12Z Bionic beast that has double the multi-core score than the Samsung’s Snapdragon 855. This has been the case for phones as well; Apple somehow manages to outshine whatever Samsung comes up with in terms of processor capability.

Furthermore, the Samsung Tab S6 has a 6GB Ram, and a 128 GB of storage capacity that can be expanded with an SD card. Contrary to that, the Apple iPad Pro (11-inch) doesn’t support the SD card. However, the base model has 6GB Ram and 128 GB built-in storage as well.

The most heated subject while comparing two devices is Performance, and keeping this important aspect unbiased is our priority. For users who love performance-oriented devices, the Apple iPad is hands down the winner because it has double the capacity to handle heavy usage. However, Samsung Tab isn’t a laggy device as well and can perform day-to-day tasks with ease.

The perks of developing both the hardware and software give an edge to Apple when it comes to optimizing their devices to produce sheer performance.

The software on the Apple iPad Pro (11-inch) is the iPad OS 13.4, which can be updated at least a couple of times. On the other hand, Samsung is rolling out Android 10 on its tablet, which is optimized as well and can be updated several times.

As far as software performance is concerned, it is a known fact that Apple optimizes their software better than Samsung’s, but it has been noted in recent years that Samsung has also raised their standards in terms of software optimization.

Both the devices are equally sized, and the same is the case for batteries. The Apple iPad Pro has a 7812-mah battery that can easily withstand 10 hours of continuous usage. Samsung, on the other hand, is packing a 7040-mah battery, which more or less gives the same kind of daily usage. Furthermore, both the devices support quick charging. However, wireless charging is still lacking, which is a big no-no, especially in 2020.

VERDICT

The Apple iPad Pro (11-inch) is a beast when it comes to the performance of both hardware and software. However, it’s a bit pricey, and you have to pay extra 100$ for the Apple Pencil, which is a bummer. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 may lack the magic multi-core scores but remains a viable option because of its premium built quality and suitable price point.

There are pros and cons of both the devices, and when it comes to buying any one of these, it solely depends on your choice and how you like using your device. Most people like buying products that suit their eco-system; however, many are critical thinkers as well who don’t just opt for a specific brand. If I were to buy any of these, I would first analyze my needs from the device, and then make my decision. If, for example, you’re a Professional and require heavy usage, then go for the Apple iPad Pro (11-inch); however, if you’re an Android fanboy and don’t have excessive usage, then surely go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6.
